In early 2008 three longtime Christian friends and sometime poets started The Chipola River School of Poetry as a way to hone their rusty poetry skills to a finer, sharper edge. This was to be a sort of laboratory where they could post, comment, critique, and grow as poets.
Their ultimate purpose in doing this exercise was to bring glory to God through the art of poetry. That being said, please don’t look for every poem here to be directly about God, because they won’t be. In fact, most of the poems here will not mention the names “God” or “Jesus” directly. We love God, but we do not believe that we must make every poem a direct ode to him in order to be faithful. Our aim is not to write “Christian poetry,” but to be Christian poets whose art is informed and shaped by their faith in Christ.
